We are proud to announce that our ambitious greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets have been officially validated and approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This follows from our earlier commitment to the SBTi that we have expressed publicly in 2023.
About the Science Based Targets initiative
The SBTi is a global corporate climate action organization that empowers businesses to take meaningful steps in tackling the climate crisis. Through the development of leading standards, tools, and guidance, the SBTi enables companies to set GHG emissions reduction targets that are aligned with the global effort to limit warming to safe levels and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
About our GHG reduction targets
In line with our commitment to the Paris agreement, our overarching target is our Net-Zero Target to reach net-zero GHG-emissions across the value chain by 2050.
This means that it is our ambition to reduce our absolute emissions by 2050 for scope 1, 2 & 3 by 90% compared to 2022 levels. Any remaining emissions will be neutralized in line with SBTi criteria, ensuring a 90% reduction as our long-term target.
To reach this ambitious target, we must take immediate action. That’s why we have also set near-term targets for 2030 (vs. 2022):
- Scope 1 + 2 (direct operations): -42%
- Scope 3 (upstream & downstream value chain): -25%
Pursuing collaborative action
We encourage all organizations to align with climate science and commit to setting science-based 1.5°C and net-zero targets too. For more information, please visit sciencebasedtargets.org. If you refer to the targets dashboard, you will find more details regarding our targets and all other organizations that are committed to the SBTi.
